About Mary Beirne Counselling and Psychotherapy

I am a psychotherapist with a private practice at 22 Upper Baggot Street Dublin and Frederick Street Ashbourne Co Meath. I work with couples, individuals and adolescents having received specific training in these areas.

My background is in nursing with over 20 years experience working with the HSE.

In 2004 I was awarded a B.A., Hons in Psychology and in 2007, M.Sc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at DCU.

From 2007 - 2017, I have worked as a couples therapist with Relationships Ireland (formerly MRCS)and am very experienced in working with all couple problems.

In 2009 I trained as a adolescent counsellor with theTeen Between Serviceand have worked as a teen counsellor since seeing young people over 12yrs.  I am accredited as a psychotherapist and supervisor with the Irish  Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP).

For most people its a big decision  to come and see a therapist

Knowing what to expect can make it a little easier.

First Session:

Our first meeting will be an exploratory session. This will allow you  to see what therapy is about and decide if it will be beneficial for you to continue.  I will take some personal details and discuss confidentiality in the counselling relationship. We will move on to look at your life and examine what has brought you to counselling at this time.  We will also look at what you want to achieve from therapy.

At the end of this session it is your decision whether to proceed further. If  you decide yes  I would normally  contract for 4 - 6 sessions after which we would review where we are.

While I am qualified in the use of psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive behavioral approaches I mainly work humanistically, using elements of the other models where appropriate.
