Mr Neil Rooney
  • Practice Therapist
Treatments

Biography: OsteopathPhysical TherapistNeil Rooney graduated from the institute of Physical Therapy and Applied Science in 2001. Since then he has worked in Dublin (Ireland), Dubai (U.A.E) and London (U.K.) as a personal fitness trainer and Physical Therapist. He graduated from the British School of Osteopathy with a Masters degree in Osteopathy. Most of his work has been with the general population but with a sporting background of regular marathon and half marathon running, cycling and Ironman triathlons, he has a keen interest in sporting related injury and rehabilitation. An Osteopathic evaluation will involve taking a detailed medical case history to ensure that treatment is appropriate. If treatment is appropriate we will first examine the area and any other joints or muscles that we might consider to be involved in the condition. It is not unusual for this to include clinical examinations such as an abdominal, cardiovascular or respiratory exam. After the examination is complete we will explain to you the diagnosis and the appropriate management and treatment before beginning treatment. At subsequent visits we will re-examine the muscles and joints indicated at the first appointment and commence treatment in accordance with the management plan.Treatment will differ for every patient because it is tailored to the diagnosis and the circumstances surrounding the symptoms. Treatment will usually involve soft tissue massage, joint articulation and mobilisations (often accompanied with a “click”), stretching muscles and releasing trigger points (“knots”) all of which are aimed at reducing pain and restoring function or range of movement. He is also qualified in Western Medical Acupuncture and Kinesio Taping and he regularly uses these tools during his osteopathic management to speed up recovery. He also uses the principles of functional movement and biomechanics when addressing musculoskeletal conditions and believes correct movement will improve a lot of dysfunction.

Biography: Mary Costello. Certified Infant Massage Instructor. Birthlight Baby Yoga Instructor. My name is Mary Costello and I teach Baby Massage and Baby Yoga courses to parents. I am a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI) with further training in massage for babies with additional needs and in massage with preterm infants. I am a huge believer in the benefits of both massage and yoga for health and wellbeing, and I believe that these benefits apply equally to babies as to adults. It is never too early to start, and the foundation we lay for our babies will affect them throughout their whole life. To expand my knowledge and qualifications in baby massage, I completed a course with Ewa Westman (Swedish International Trainer with IAIM), on Massage for Babies with Additional Needs. I took an educational training workshop entitled The Preterm Infant: The NICU Experience and Beyond.
