Biography: Dr. Ukani earned his bachelor's degree in life sciences at Queen's University before going on to study medicine at the University of Calgary. After earning his medical degree, he continued his formal training in plastic surgery at McGill University, where he completed a 5-year residency training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery.After completing his formal medical education and plastic surgery training, Dr. Ukani traveled to the United States to pursue 2 additional years of training with world-renowned specialists in the field. Dr. Ukani spent more than a year working alongside Dr. William Zamboni in Las Vegas while obtaining additional training in cosmetic surgery and microsurgery. During that time, Dr. Ukani also held an academic appointment as a clinical instructor in surgery at the University of Nevada. He then spent an additional year at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, one of the United States' premier cancer hospitals. While at MD Anderson, Dr. Ukani underwent training related to breast cancer reconstruction and held an academic appointment as a clinical specialist.Dr. Ukani currently serves as the head of the division of plastic surgery at Royal Columbian Hospital and Eagle Ridge Hospital. He is currently president of the medical staff association at Royal Columbian Hospital. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Canada, and holds memberships with the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons. He also holds an academic appointment at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Ukani is a member of the medical staff at Royal Columbian, Eagle Ridge, and Surrey Memorial hospitals. He maintains surgical privileges at False Creek Surgical Centre. In addition to his continual practice and accolades, Dr. Ukani regularly donates his time and skills to Operation Rainbow Canada, a nonprofit organization that provides free reconstructive surgery to underprivileged children and young adults in the developing world. Dr. Ukani is proud to offer his services to Operation Rainbow Canada and feels strongly that all children have the right to health and self-confidence.
