Biography: MB BCh MPhil FRCSI(Gen) FRACS Upper GI, Bariatric, Laparoscopic Hernia Specialist I am an Australian and UK trained Upper GI and Laparoscopic surgeon. I was trained mainly in the UK before completing an Upper GI Fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and this was followed by a Laparoscopic Surgical Fellowship in Canberra. During my training, I completed a research thesis resulting in a Master of Philosophy Degree and I won the UK Intensive Care Society’s Travelling Fellowship that allowed me to visit trauma centres in Denver, Memphis and Seattle. I was awarded my Fellowship from the Irish College of Surgeons in 1985 and I won the Gold Medal at the Intercollegiate Examination in General Surgery in February 2003. I was the first surgeon from Belfast ever to win the Gold Medal. I was awarded my Fellowship from the Australian College of Surgeons in 2006.

Biography: Shirley is a member of the Obesity Surgery Society of Australia & New Zealand (OSSANZ), and the head of the Perioperative Nurse Surgical Assistant Core Group in Queensland. Consultations are conducted by Shirley free of charge, to provide information on the types of surgery available and the program appointments. This appointment is not in place of a clinical appointment performed by Dr Phil Lockie. Even if a client does not proceed with surgery, this practice has an open door policy. This enables the client to have contact with specialists and the facility of the support group.
