About Garstang Physiotherapy Clinic

Painful musculoskeletal and neurological conditions are treated by chartered physiotherapists and oesteopaths at this clinic located in Garstang half way between Preston and Lancaster  in Lancashire. Restoring the normal function of patients in the shortest possible time is the aim of the team. Home visits are arranged for patients who are too ill to attend the clinic. Conditions treated include backache, muscle and joint pain, sprains, sports injuries and arthritis related aches and pains. Services provided include manual therapy, treatments for sports injuries, post injury and post operative rehabilitation, exercise therapy, posture correction and advice, podiatry and Pilates classes.

Biography: Lynley graduated in 2001 from the University of Otago New Zealand. She came to England in 2003 and has worked both for the NHS and the private sector. Lynley has spent most of her career working in Paediatrics and still sees young patients regularly. Since moving to Lancashire, Lynley has trained as a Pilates instructor (and now teaches Pilates instructors!) and lectured Physiotherapy at Manchester Metropolitan University for 2 years.

Biography: Simon trained as a Physiotherapist at Kings College, London and graduated in 2001. He spent 5 years working for the NHS in Kent before returning to his native Lancashire at the beginning of 2006. Since then, Simon has worked increasingly in the private healthcare sector at local private hospitals and clinics. Simon has spent most of his career working with people with Orthopaedic and Musculo-skeletal problems.

Biography: Carol graduated from Bradford Hospita'ls School of Physiotherapy in 1990. She worked in various NHS hospitals in Liverpool before specialising in the musculoskeletal field when she moved to the University Hospital Aintree in '92. Carol has worked alongside orthopaedic consultants in clinics as well as treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including back and neck pain and sports injuries. She also has a special interest in vestibular and balance disorders. In her spare time, Carol has a busy family life caring for 4 children and enjoys swimming and aerobics.

Ms Liona Harris

Biography: Liona completed her first degree, in Sports Rehabilitation, at the University of Bolton. She graduated in 2008 and immediately started her Physiotherapy degree at Manchester Metropolitan University, graduating in 2011. She worked at Lancaster Royal Infirmary after her graduation and then spent 9 months working exclusively with a musculoskeletal caseload in Cambridgeshire before returning to Lancashire where she now works exclusively in the private sector. Liona is a Pilates Instructor as well as a Physiotherapist and is working towards becoming a fully certified instructor with the APPI. Liona loves going to the gym and enjoys both Pilates and Yoga. She is a keen runner and is training for her first "extreme 10k".

Victoria Walmsley

Biography: Victoria Walmsley is a specialist Physiotherapist in Women's Health. She has over 5 years' experience treating specific continence problems including bowel and bladder related disorders, constipation and prolapses. Victoria qualified from Bradford University in 2002 thereafter gaining a wide range of Physiotherapy experience in musculoskeletal outpatients, medicine, intensive care, orthopaedics and paediatrics. She has extended her knowledge doing specific training courses with the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Women's Health (ACPWH) for bladder and bowel disorders. She also runs core stability and Pilates classes for both women's health and general patients. Victoria joins the team at Garstang Physiotherapy Clinic as a Specialist Physiotherapist in Women's Health and as a Pilates Instructor.

Briony Theobold

Biography: Briony completed an honours degree in biology at York University before gaining a degree in physiotherapy at the University of Central Lancashire in 2008. Briony has gained a wide range of experience in many areas of physiotherapy before specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. Currently Briony works at the Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. In daily practice she uses pilates based exercises to treat a wide range of conditions. In her spare time Briony enjoys keeping fit by running and walking.

Biography: Garstang Physiotherapy Clinic is happy to host specialist Neurological Physiotherapy services courtesy of Neurocare Physiotherapy Ltd : with Sarah Jennings, who regularly runs clinics here and is also available for home visits. Sarah graduated from the University of Birmingham , BSc(Hons) in Physiotherapy in 1994. She then worked at Sandwell Hospital where she began to specialise in neurology. Following this she worked at various hospitals including University Hospital Birmingham and a rehabilitation unit in Tamworth, gaining wide neurological experience in both acute and rehabilitation settings. Sarah has worked with patients with a wide variety of neurological problems including stroke, multiple sclerosis, head injury and Parkinson's disease. She takes particular interest in the development of services for patients with multiple sclerosis. She has recently developed her skills in the management of spasticity and has qualified to inject for spasticity.
