Dr Alex Chamberlain

Biography: Alex graduated in Medicine with Honours from Monash University in 1993. He completed his residency at The Alfred Hospital. Prior to commencing dermatology training he was Research Fellow at the Victorian Melanoma Service under Professor John Kelly. His dermatology training was at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals (Churchill Hospital), Austin Repatriation Medical Centre and The Alfred Hospital. Alex attained fellowship of the Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD) in 2004. Part of 2007 was spent in Oxford again for a fellowship in multidisciplinary cancer care and dermoscopy (Florance Bequest). He has worked as visiting specialist at the Royal Children's Hospital in the paediatric dermatology clinic up until 2011, and continues at the Alfred as consultant to the Victorian Melanoma Service - a multidisciplinary consultative clinic set up to support patients with melanoma. Alex's areas of expertise include dermoscopy and the early detection of skin cancers including melanoma, along with acne and disorders of hair and nails. He has published more than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals and is a regular speaker at national meetings and educational workshops. He is on the editorial board of the Australasian Journal of Dermatology.

Biography: Helen graduated in Medicine from University of Tasmania in 1998. She completed her residency at the Royal Hobart Hospital. Prior to commencing her dermatology training she worked as a Research Fellow at the Occupational Dermatology and Research Centre in Melbourne under Professor Rosemary Nixon. Her dermatology training was at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Skin & Cancer Foundation, Monash Medical Centre and St Vincent’s Hospital. Helen attained Fellowship of the Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD) in 2006. She spent part of 2007 in Oxford completing a fellowship in vulvar disorders under Professor Fenella Wojnarowska. This subspecialty remains a major interest for Helen and sees patients both privately and at The Women’s Hospital Vulval Clinic in this regard. Helen also has an appointment as a visiting dermatologist at St Vincent’s Hospital. Helen has published a number of papers primarily in the field of contact dermatitis. Beyond vulvar disorders she consults on all areas of adult and paediatric dermatology.
