About MacDonald Periodontics

Biography: Dr Kevin MacDonald pursued a Bachelor of Science degree from Acadia University, prior to completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at Dalhousie University where he graduated with Distinction and was awarded the University medal for Dentistry as the top graduating student. After graduation, Dr MacDonald worked in private general practice for 1 year in Moncton, New Brunswick before returning to the University of Toronto to complete his post-graduate studies in Periodontics. Dr MacDonald received a Masters of Science in Periodontics from the University of Toronto in 2006 and also became a Fellow in the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in the same year. He is the founder of the Greater Saint John Dental Implant Study Club, a member of the Canadian Academy of Periodontics, the American Academy of Periodontics, the Canadian Dental Association and the International Team for Implantology. He is also the past president of the Greater Saint John District Dental Society and has lectured extensively in the maritime provinces on both periodontics and dental implant therapy. Dr MacDonald maintains a full-time private practice in Saint John, New Brunswick limited to periodontics and dental implant therapy and is also a part-time faculty member at Dalhousie University where he lectures mainly on Aesthetic Considerations for Periodontal and Dental Implant Therapy.

Biography: Shelley Elderkin is a graduate of Simonds High School in Saint John, New Brunswick. At the completion of her high school education she attended Holland College in Prince Edward Island and graduated as a Certified Level II Dental Assistant in the year 2000. For the first ten years of her career, she has worked in general dental practices in Saint John. Shelley joined our team in 2008 and has been Dr. Kevin MacDonalds Administrative Assistant and Office Manager where she has expanded her dental experience through continuing education courses in implant therapy as well as attending international periodontal conventions and Dental Implant Auxiliaries with the rest of the office staff

Biography: Tara graduated from Kennebecasis Valley High School, New Brunswick. At the completion of her high school education she attended the Dental Assistants Academy of NB and graduated as a Certified Level II Dental Assistant in the year 2000. Tara began her dental career working seven years in general practice dentistry prior to joining our periodontal practice in 2007. Tara joined our team as Dr. MacDonald's surgical chairside dental assistant where she enjoys being in our very progressive office and especially enjoys the opportunity to attend the many periodontal and implant therapy continuing education courses both locally and internationally with our practice. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
