Biography: Dr. Tom Babu, MD, DNB (Endo)Medical Director & Head of Department of Diabetes and EndocrinologySilverline HospitalDr. Tom Babu heads the Division of Diabetes & Endocrinology at Silverline Hospital. He is one of the few certified Endocrinologists in Kochi (Kerala, India). He did his basic undergraduate training in medicine from JSS Medical College, Mysore. During his student days, he showed keen interest in the field of General/ Internal Medicine. He followed his passion by pursuing an MD in General Medicine. He was voted the best outgoing student in the MD exams. He did his super speciality training in the field of Diabetes and Endocrinology from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi and was awarded the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Diabetes and Endocrinology. He had a brief stint at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota) where he was exposed to the world’s best in the field of Diabetes Endocrinology. He came back to India and founded Silverline Hospital incorporating some of the best practices in health care from around the world. He is also armed with an MBA from Paris (ENPC). He is affiliated with the Endocrine Society of India (ESI), and the Research Society of Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI). He has published his research work in various reputed journals and has contributed to textbooks in the field of Endocrinology and Diabetes. He has appeared on national television on several occasions to share his views in the field of Diabetes and Endocrinology. He has written several articles in the field of Endocrinology in national newspapers for the benefit of the general public. He has given invited lectures at various national and international forums. His focus areas are Obesity, Type I Diabetes ( Diabetes in children) and tumours/ cancer. He is most passionate about teaching Endocrinology to young doctors and trainees at Silverline Hospital. He is instrumental in conducting regular journal clubs and teaching sessions at Silverline Hospital and in doing so he ensures that all the Doctors at Silverline Hospital are up to date with the latest in the field of Diabetes & Endocrinology. Outside Endocrinology he is an avid reader and is very passionate about tennis. Biography: MBBS, MS (General Surgery)Consultant Bariatric and Laparoscopic Surgeon,Silverline Hospital, Kochi Dr. Vivekanand is the Consultant Bariatric and Laparoscopic surgeon at Silverline Hospital. He is among the few Bariatric Surgeons in Kerala who has done large volumes of Weight loss/bariatric surgery procedures (Gastric Sleeve Resection as well Gastric Bypass). He completed his basic graduation in medicine (MBBS) from Medical College, Trivandrum in 1995. He did his masters (MS) in General Surgery from same college in 1998-2001. He was awarded the gold medal for best outgoing student during his post graduate training in General and Laparoscopic Surgery. During his training period itself he developed a keen interest in minimally access surgery (Laparoscopy) and Weight loss/bariatric Surgery. He has over 14 years experience in the field of Laparoscopic Surgery and over 9 years experience in advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Weight loss & Metabolic Surgery. He has published several papers in several national journals. He has done research work on Solid and Cystic Neoplasm’s of Pancreas and has published his findings. He has organized several CME’s and symposiums on various surgical topics and is considered (by his peers) to be an expert in the area of conducting/ organizing such meetings. He has also presented various papers on national forums mostly in the field of Weight loss & Metabolic Surgery. He conducts regular training program for junior surgeons in laparoscopy and newer minimally invasive procedures in bariatric surgery in various parts of the country. He plays and important part in patient counseling sessions for patients interested in weight loss surgery and he considers this a very important part of this surgery. He is an invited faculty to national conferences around the country. When he is not operating, he enjoys reading non-fiction materials, traveling, participating in social and cultural activities, learning martial art (Karate) etc.
