Biography: Gloria Esegbona is a UK born and trained specialist obstetrician & gynaecologist, Winston Churchill fellow, academic, & educator. She is skilled in high risk intrapartum care and with specialist experience in prevention and management of a wide range of birth trauma. Over the past 15 years she has trained as an obstetric fistula surgeon, set up birth units and services in Africa, advocated for birth rights, trained hundreds of birth workers and birthed thousands of mothers in the UK, Australia, and several African countries including Malawi, Kenya & Nigeria. As a result Gloria have worked alongside amazing birth experts and mothers learning midwifery, obstetrics, physiology, surgery, biomechanics, pelvic floor ultrasound among others. 'I have seen that when trauma occurs it’s usually around the time of birth. I believe this period is all about art – because each and every birth is different. You can’t apply the same principles to every birth – you have to personalize your care each and every time. Appreciating this art reduces trauma.
