About Wales Fertility Institute Cardiff

The Wales Fertility Institute at the University Hospital of Wales is part of a two site South and West Wales Fertility Service with the second site being based at Neath Port Talbot Hospital.  The specialised multi disciplinary team consists of doctors, nurses, embryologists, counsellors and administrative staff. Treatments provided at the clinic are IUI, donor IUI, IVF and ICSI, ovulation induction, egg retrieval, fertilization and embryo development, egg and embryo freezing and blastocyst transfers. An egg donation scheme is available at the clinic.   The Centre has the facility to offer PGD services and is currently in discussion with the commissxioners regarding the commencement of this service to NHS patients in Wales.

The WFI service strives to ensure that patients accessing the service are provided with a high quality and effective treatment pathway.  The Centre is licensed by the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority.

Biography: Consultant EmbryologistPaul has been involved in IVF for nearly 20 years. Having undertaken research for both his Masters and Doctoral studies at Manchester and Sheffield Universities respectively, he became a full-time embryologist and managed laboratories both in Birmingham and more lately IVF Hammersmith where he oversaw a highly successful laboratory service. Paul was also a long serving member of the ACE training committee and continues to be an Assessor for the Association of Clinical Scientists and an External Scientific Advisor to the HFEA In search of a new challenge Paul moved to Wales to take charge of the WFI laboratories in Cardiff and Neath. Paul has great experience of state of the art techniques such as embryo and egg genetic diagnosis (PGD/ PGS) and time-lapse embryo culture which WFI is now able to offer. Paul is also the HFEA Person Responsible at WFI- Cardiff.

Biography: Quality Manager - Stephanie offers a complete Quality Management System regulated by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority to both WFI sites ensuring the service is maintained and managed in conjunction with regulatory and service requirements.  Stephanie is a member of the Chartered Quality Institute.
